Each skip size has a maximum fill weight, and heavy materials hit that limit before the skip looks full. A 2-yard mini skip is typically capped at around 1.5 to 2 tonnes, a 3-yard midi at 2.5 tonnes, and a 4-yard builders skip at 3 to 4 tonnes. If you tip in a full patio's worth of concrete slabs, a 4-yard can be overweight with plenty of visual space to spare. We cannot lift an overweight skip safely, so it is better to book smaller and let us swap it out than to overfill a larger one.

No. Plasterboard must be kept separate from all other waste, including soil and rubble. The sulphates in plasterboard react with biodegradable material in landfill to produce hydrogen sulphide gas, which is why it is classified under the Hazardous Waste Regulations and must go to a dedicated gypsum recycling stream. If you have plasterboard to dispose of alongside rubble, tell us when you book and we will advise on a separate collection or a split load.

Clean inert loads, meaning soil, concrete, bricks and hardcore with no contamination and no mixed waste, go to a licensed materials recycling facility. There they are crushed, screened and graded into secondary aggregate, which is then sold back into the construction industry for sub-base, drainage blanket and road foundation use. This keeps the material out of landfill entirely. Mixed or contaminated loads cannot follow this route and cost more to process, which is why we ask you to keep loads clean.

No permit is needed for a skip placed entirely on private land, including your driveway, as long as no part of it overhangs the pavement or highway. If the only option is the road outside your property, we apply for a skip permit from the Vale of White Horse or relevant local authority on your behalf. Permit lead times vary but are typically two to five working days, so let us know when you book if you think you will need road placement. Skips on the public highway must be lit and signed overnight, which we provide as part of the placement.
