Roofing & Renovation Waste Skips

Roofing jobs generate a heavy, awkward mix of old tiles, slates, felt, battens and broken timbers that cannot just go in a general skip without some thought about weight. A standard concrete tile weighs around 4 kg, so even a modest re-roof over a semi-detached produces upwards of a tonne of material. We size the skip to match: most re-roofing jobs fit a 4 or 6-yard builders skip, though a large hip roof or double-extension project often fills an 8-yard. We set a weight limit of 1.5 tonnes on 4-yard loads and 2.5 tonnes on 6-yard loads, so if you are stripping a heavy concrete tile or natural slate roof, spread the load sensibly and let us know in advance. The one material we cannot take is asbestos cement sheeting, which was used on outbuildings, garages and flat roofs built before around 2000. If you suspect your old roof covering contains asbestos, stop and have it tested before breaking it up. Asbestos removal is tightly regulated and needs a licensed contractor. Bitumen-sealed flat roofing felt in small quantities is generally fine, but full bitumen drums or large quantities of tar-bound material are not accepted. Waste from loft conversions and internal strip-outs can go in the same skip as the roofing debris, provided you keep it to timber, old insulation, plasterboard off-cuts and general renovation rubble. Note that plasterboard should ideally be kept separate or at least kept to a small proportion of the load, as landfill tax rules apply differently to plasterboard waste and we may need to charge a surcharge for heavy plasterboard-mixed loads. We recycle tiles and concrete rubble into aggregate where possible through our licensed transfer station.
